Anti-frizz conditioner infused with Agarwood oil

Objective

Create a hair conditioner while making use or agarwood oil as an ingredient in the formulation.

Survey insights


Through our survey, we learnt that most of the surveyees suffer from hair loss as well as frizzy and dry hair.

We also found out about their concerns towards hair conditioning products (price) and what attracts them to get a product (claims and quality).



Need Statement

"I need an affordable yet effective product which can solve my problem with frizzy hair and hair loss"

Ideation 

After conducting surveys, we settled on what we need to achieve while creating our product. In the making of our anti frizz hair conditioner, we need to infuse ingredients that can help to moisturize hair, and at the same time, we need to ensure that our product is affordable, by using ingredients that are cheap yet effective.

Avocado oil

  • Rich in antioxidants, minerals, essential fatty acids, biotin and vitamins A, B-5 and E.
  • Helps moisturize, repair and strengthen hair.
  • Minerals help to seal cuticle cells and prevent hair breakage.
  • Stimulates blood flow and unclog blocked follicles, hence fighting hair loss

Olive oil

  • Rich in vitamins A and E and antioxidants, helping to protect keratin in hair and seal in moisture, leaving a healthy shine to the hair.
  • Removes build up of sebum and softens hair.

Jojoba oil

  • Rich in vitamins C, B and E and minerals such as copper and zinc which nourishes hair.
  • Protect against dryness, breakage, split ends and hair loss.
  • Moisturizes scalp, possible remedy for dandruff.
Our conditioner contains a few key ingredients. Avocado oil serves as an active ingredient, Purasal moist XS is a humectant, moisturizing active and provides better texture and outlook to the hair, BTMS is a conditining emulsifier and Cetearyl alcohol is a thickener.

Creation process

During the creation process, we were faced with many problems, including issues with obtaining the viscosity, texture and fragrance. It took us many tries to create an ideal fragrance as well as a stable product upon scaling up.

Design Thinking Project: Skin care and Hair care

Objective

Create one innovative hair care and skin care product.

Summary

My team and I were tasked to come up with an idea and formulation for an innovative hair care product as well as skin care product upon conducting surveys.

Survey Insights (hair care product)

Through an online survey, we learnt that the most common hair problem faced is dry hair and more than half of our surveyees bleach/ dye their hair 1-3 three times a year. We also found out that the most common hair product used is hair oil.

Need Statement (hair care product)

"I need a hair care product that has hydrating and colour retention properties that I can bring around easily."

Ideation (hair care product)

Using the insights we have obtained from the survey, we came up with the idea of a moisturizing hairspray with colour retention properties to suit what most of our surveyees need.

In the formulation for the hairspray, we added Chromaveil (Quaternium-95 (and) Propanediol) to provide UV protection for the hair for both rinse off and leave on systems, absorbing both UVA and UVB range for maximum protection for the hair and protects coloured hair from fading from UVA absorbance.

Survey Insights (skin care product)

Upon conducting the survey, we learnt that over 50% of our surveyees have dry skin and wear make up almost everyday. Most of them look out for products that have moisturizing properties, followed by brightening and coverage properties.

"I need a skin care product that has moisturizing, brightening and SPF properties that is suitable for dry skin."


Ideation (skin care product)

Since many of our surveyees have dry skin, wear make up almost everyday and have moisturizing properties in a product as their priority, we decided to create a tinted moisturizer which provides moisturizing and brightening properties as well as sheer coverage and sun protection for the skin.

The key ingredient in our formulation is: Solaveil XT-300
This ingredient is provides a broad spectrum of UV protection and is ideal for sun care and colour cosmetic applications. It provides a higher UVA protection as compared to traditional sunscreens and provides a high UVB protection at the same time.

Packaging

The packaging is the highlight of our product.

The product containers can be attached together like lego. This provides convenience for the product to be brought around. It also has a mirror attached so that users can apply the products with ease. Lastly, we made use of the key chain concept that we see on many hand sanitizer products, where the user can hang it on their bags, avoiding spillage of the product when heir are left to topple over inside bags.

The bottles for the products have a spray and pump lid for the hair oil and tinted moisturizer to allow easy dispensing of the product.
